Egyptian Cotton
Our Egyptian Cotton Sheet sets and Duvet Sets carry the Egyptian Cotton Logo,
an exclusive standard of excellence license that is sparingly proferred
by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Trade to those growers of "hand picked" 100%
Egyptian Barbadense Cotton and meet the strenuous standard of excellence
required by the Egyptian Logo License.

Egyptian Cotton is grown and harvested in Egypt where growing conditions in the Rich soils of the Nile Delta ensure a larger cotton bud and very long staple length.
Egyptian Cotton is the worlds finest cotton and the following characteristics are what sets Egyptian Cotton apart from other fibres.
- The length of the fibre makes it possible to spin the finest of yarns without sacrficing the strength of the yarn.
- The strength of the Egyptian Cotton fibre makes fabrics more solid and more resistant to stress.
- Egyptian Cottons ability to absorb moisture gives fabrics deeper, brighter and more long lasting colours.
- Its softness is legendary.
Egyptian Cotton is hand picked which guarantees the highest levels of purity. In addition, hand picking puts less stress on the fibres as opposed to mechanical harvesting, leaving the fibres straight and intact.
Yarn Count
Our Percale Sheeting is woven from Longstaple Eygptian Cotton Yarns which are then spun into super fine 2 ply yarns. For our product we use high yarn count two ply which is lustrous, strong and fine.
Thread Count
We advertise our thread counts in the Imperial system which is the measure of warp threads plus the number of weft threads per square inch in the construction of the greige fabric before finishing.
This method understates the yarn count because we don't count the 2 ply yarns and double the thread count sowhen you read that our percales are 230 Thread Count, don't forget that that's actually 460 Threads per inch.
Care and Maintenance
Machine Wash on the gentle cycle on a "cold" or "warm" water setting to 40 degrees Celcuis.
Line Dry your sheets whenever possible, taking care to fold the sheets in half to ensure a slow drying rate to reduce wrinkling. Sheets dried in the sun smell great when you put them back on your bed.
If you absolutely have to use a drier, set your drier to "Permanent Press" or a "Warm" not Hot cycle. Remove your sheets and fold them as soon as they are dry. If wrinkles have set in, place a clean damp white cloth in the drier and re tumble for 5 minutes.
Change and wash your bedlinen once a week and more often as needed in hot or humid conditions.
Pillowcases wear more quickly than your bed sheets and duvets, Change and Wash Pillowcases more often as needed in hot or humid conditions and have a spare set on hand.
The Environment
At the Bedlinen Company we believe in the importance of Conservation and the affect of production on the environment.
We are committed to working with Textile Mills who are equally dedicated to clean manufacturing processes and we continue to look for more ways in which we can ensure our product is as organic as we can make it whilst still keeping in mind the requirements of our customers. No one wants to sleep in scratchy unprocessed sheets.
Formaldehyde Free Finishing
In the development of our product ranges we have chosen to use Organically Grown Egyptian Cotton Yarn, to spin and use high count 2 ply yarns to achieve beautifully dense percales.
The finishing process is equally important to the product and it would be a pity to then use finishing agents and binders with harmful chemical residues, as a result we have ensured that our products are finished Formaldehyde Free.
Why Formaldehyde Free?
Formaldehyde is a colourless organic chemical used as a preservative and bonding agent. Formaldehyde is in your carpeting, wall board, furniture and cotton textiles.
Formaldehyde can naturally emit gas at room temperature. It is normally present at low levels in nature at around 0.002 to 0.05ppm (parts per million) depending upon the area.
Most adults react to Formaldehyde at a range of 0.1 to 1.5ppm in the air. Eye, nose and throat irritation, coughing, skin rashes and headaches are just a few of the symptoms caused by Formaldehyde.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Formaldehyde as a Probable Human Carcinogen meaning that it causes cancer in animals and it is also likely in humans.
The European Standard for Formaldehyde levels in household products has been regulated for many years, the maximum level is set at 75ppm for adult garments and 20ppm for babies and children.
Our products are all manufactured to the 20ppm standard set for use by babies and small children.
Azo Free Dyes
Azo dyes and pigments are used to colour textiles and plastics. Some of the by
products such as chlorinated aromatic amines are toxic and may be potential
carcinogens. The European Commission has recently passed directive 76/769EEC
which bans the usage of certain Azo dyes for use in any textile or leather
product which may come in "direct or prolonged" contact with the
skin or mouth. It is very important that Azo Dyes and Pigments resist biodegradation
under aerobic conditions so they are difficult to remove from the ecosystem.
